Liz and Johnny live in New Zealand. Liz is from Michigan (and a fellow U of M English major, which is how we bonded) and Johnny is from New Zealand--he had only seen Lake Michigan 1 time before the wedding day--and in the winter, no less! They chose to elope in the sweetest tiny ceremony on a beach near Port Oneida in Leelanau County and Ian and I were lucky enough to photograph it. Liz, being an avid reader and lover of literature, wanted to incorporate her love of reading into the ceremony, so rather than carrying a bouquet of traditional flowers, she fashioned a "book-kay" of books that have been critical to her development as a reader--this was amazing. Johnny was waiting for her at the bottom of 47 steps on an abandoned beach in Northern Michigan, and even though the skies were cloudy when we started, the sun broke through right as these two said their final vows, and kissed. It was absolutely, drop dead, amazing.
This awesome day was followed by a reception at the Riverside Inn in Leland, MI for an intimate dinner with their closest family and friends. It was a true honor to work with this couple and yet another example of why I am always blown away by the trust and respect folks put in us to capture their amazing weddings. Congratulations, Liz and Johnny!
Reception venue: Riverside Inn, Leland, MI // Pre-Ceremony/Bed and Breakfast: Little Traverse Inn, Lake Leelanau, MI.
