Almost a year and a half ago, I decided to deactivate my Facebook account. At the time, I was just tired of all the extra "stuff" that Facebook added to my life and I felt I was becoming a loaf, checking it constantly and worrying way too much about who was updating his/her status. When I deactivated my account, it was amazing--I felt good! I started telling people "Getting off Facebook is the by thing I ever did in my life." Ian would always correct me...and I would restate, "The 2nd best thing, darling. The first was marrying someone who would voluntarily dress as Coach Eric Taylor for a theme party."
Fast forward to the end of July 2012. All of a sudden I'm starting a business and what do I find myself realizing....I need to get back on Facebook. I resisted for a few weeks, I tried to convince myself I could run a business without Facebook....but, slowly, I realized it is a valuble social media tool. And, as much as I didn't want to admit it, it will bring Emily Alt Photography to more people. Thus, with a big gulp and a little trepidation, I sat down and opened a Facebook page....reactivated my dormant account, and once again found myself surrounded by the world of status updates, tagging, picture postings, Timeline updates (I am still totally clueless as to what this is) and blocking privacy status bars. It took Ian a good hour to explain to me all the updates and how to create my page, but now that I am back in the land of Facebook, I realize that it doesn't need to be as stressful or life consuming as I had once let it be. I can check it once or twice a week and really not miss a whole lot. Plus I can reconnect with some folks who had gone missing from my life as well. So, back to Facebook it is. And...if you haven't already, please "Like" Emily Alt Photography.
