About two months ago I ran a giveaway for a Day in the Life shoot. I absolutely love giveaways and I was really excited to try this type of shoot. A Day in the Life shoot is sort of what it sounds like--I, as a photographer, spend a day with a family capturing their every moment--the mundane to the exciting. Washing the dishes to playing in the snow to reading books to cooking dinner--nothing will go un-captured! When I first introduced this contest, I was blown away by the amount of interest I had from families all around Chicago and throughout Michigan. Everyone was just as excited as I was, which was awesome! I ran the contest for a couple weeks, got some help from my fellow bloggers and artists and by the end of the time, I had over 40 entrants! Through the power of a random number generator, the lucky winners were Leslie and Ben and their 4 kids.
Now, let me be clear--when I arrived at Leslie's house, I knew she had twins. I assumed one set of twins. I didn't realize until I came in and she introduced me that I realized there were.....2 sets of twins. 4 twins! Double jackpot! This day was going to be way more fun than I had anticipated!
In this adorable house in Hudsonville I spent the day with Leslie and Ben, married for 6 years and Ollie, Owen (age 5, though, as they politely informed me, almost 6. We talked about how awesome being 6 is--I told them I liked being 6 and they said they thought they would like it too). The other set of twins, Max and Izzy are just as adorable, though a little on the shy side, and they were 3 years old. One of the best parts of spending the day with this family was that all the kids were in the BEST moods ever. There was no crying, no temper tantrums, no meltdowns, just total cooperation and fun. Leslie had a lot of great activities planned to ensure we captured the family in its element--drawing, painting, crafts, bedroom exploration, playing in the snow and Ms. Izzy even got a chance to try on her mom's wedding dress while the boys played with Dad outside. What a fun day with this family--full of love and obvious joy for one another.
This was the first Day in the Life shoot I have completed and I cannot express enough how much FUN it was! Not only did it test my creative skills, but it also was just a wonderful opportunity to explore shots that I might otherwise not have had an opportunity to. The kids were able to relax around the camera and those candid, un-posed captures are some of my favorites!
I really hope to do more Day in the Life shoots. They are a pretty significant investment (about $1200 total), but I am going to offer them at 40% off through August 1 with the hope that more families will take me up on these super fun, low pressure opportunity to get some amazing family time and great photographs. A Day in the Life shoot includes 4-5 hours of coverage, approximately 200 shots, online viewing gallery, digital print rights, 1 album of 30 shots and 2 8x10 prints of your choice. The total for this package is $1200. If you wish to remove the print rights, the total is $900.00...but at 40%, the price drops all the way down to $540! That's a HUGE deal! Drop me an email if you're interested in setting up a shoot! And in the meantime, enjoy the shots below.
