As I mentioned last week, I am in the middle of reading the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson. I started this book mainly because Ian had bought it on my Kindle and hadn't finished it, so I felt bad letting it go to waste--I didn't really anticipate enjoying it that much--I'm not a huge Apple cult follower or anything to that effect, though I love my iphone and (obviously) only use Macs for editing and work--still, I like Apple and appreciate Apple, but I've never had a fascination with Steve Jobs.
Then I started reading this book and I have to say, it's pretty damn interesting. Not only was the man driven towards perfection to no end, but he also was willing to take major risks in terms of his design, marketing and overall product--which yielded one of the most successful companies ever in history.
Taking risks--it's scary for anyone. Especially, I'm finding, when you work for yourself and a risk could either make or break your bank account for months to come. I think I'm pretty fortunate to have people like Ian, Sarah and Nancy surrounding me who help rein me in when I get too risky and adventurous, but I am also a big picture girl--I have big ideas and big dreams and sometimes I get too far ahead of myself planning for the adventure before I work out the logistics.
But....I have a REALLY good and REALLY big idea right now. No, it's nothing that will turn Emily Alt Photography into an Apple-esque corporation--waaay smaller scale than that! But it is cool and I am thinking it could really change the way we do business for the next couple of years.....I am almost ready to reveal it to all of you. It's going to be kick ass. And I'm mega excited. But I'm working on being pragmatic on it, getting feedback from my trusted peeps, etc etc. I would say that you should look for the full info coming at you early next week, though. In the meantime, check out the ad below that never aired--Steve Jobs doing the voice. He's got a good point and I'm feeling inspired.
