Katy and Lucas live in Anchorage, Alaska but they chose to marry at the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee, WI. When Katy got in touch with me about shooting her wedding, I was over the moon--she and Lucas were planning from a distance and didn't have a lot of time to waste--she wanted to keep things pretty simple with a very small group of super close family and friends. Everything about the day was special, from the antique bracelet Katy wore to Lucas serenading and performing with members of his rock solid bluegrass band during the reception to Katy's father giving a heartfelt and emotional toast to finding an image of Tom Selleck on the wall while shooting (apparently Katy is really into Tom Selleck and the best line of the day was when she said, very honestly, "I can't believe he's here!"). The reception boasted burgers, filet, custom cocktails and some of the best darn wedding pie we've ever had from the Honeypie Cafe in Milwaukee. One of the best things we found while capturing the night, in addition to how nice everyone was, was hearing how often folks used the word "family" to describe their Alaska group--it was very clear from start to finish that all of these people really care for and love one another--that's the best kind of wedding to shoot. Congratulations Katy and Lucas!
