Matthew and Pam got married in the tiny school house in the Port Oneida area of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and they could not have asked for a better day weather-wise or a better location--this wedding was so much fun! Pam found me through A Practical Wedding (which basically means it was love from the start, since that site tends to attract the coolest, most down to earth and fun brides I know) and I am so, so glad she did. Not only is Pam a teacher, but Matthew works with water and natural space restoration in the Northern Michigan area--education AND they love Northern Michigan as much as I do?! I'm sold--These two were right up my alley!
The day the married in Leelanau County was gorgeous--the heat wave of earlier in the week broke and we had sunny skies and temperatures topping out around 70 degrees. Matthew is from Arizona originally and Pam is from Michigan. They wanted to get married in a place that reflected their mutual love for the outdoors and all things nature--the Port Oneida Schoolhouse in the National Lakeshore was a perfect spot! Pam and Matthew are both very laid back and didn't want any photographs of their getting ready, but they did want to grab an ice cream snack at the Pine Cone in downtown Glen Arbor after their First Look (Pam told me it was one of the first place she had taken Matthew as she was showing him the ropes to Northern Michigan many years before, so it had some pretty great sentimental value), which was at the Glen Haven Canning Company near Lake Michigan. Pam's dress was from Champagne and Strawberry and both the bride and groom wore cowboy boots. Matthew's stepfather even made Pam's awesome hair clip out of a cactus branch from his native Arizona. After their super touching ceremony at the Port Oneida Schoolhouse (I'll admit it, I was crying), we ventured onto the Port Oneida beach of Lake Michigan for a few more pictures and then it was onto the Glen Arbor Township Hall for a fabulous dinner from Spaghetti Jim's, a local Italian joint, and ice cream cake from Moomer's (supposedly the best ice cream in the nation, and you won't find me arguing that!). Pam's dad even jumped up on stage towards the end of the evening to play with the band, who were all members of Steppin' In It, one of the BEST wedding bands I've seen this year.
This entire wedding was absolutely one of my favorite to be part of and Ian and I even found ourselves staying nearly an hour after our contract since we were having so much fun with this wonderful group of people. Ok, enough about me--congratulations Matthew and Pam and thank you SO much for letting us be part of your day! It was absolutely perfect!
